The word that came from Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, stand in the gate of the LORD’s house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD. Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.” Jeremiah 7:1-7

When things are not going well in a nation, family, or church, it is easy to point a finger at someone else and blame them for the problems. Obviously, that was taking place in Judaea with the people of God. Judgement was about to fall on the nation of Judah. Jeremiah had proclaimed that to be the case. Yet, the people of God were still going to the temple as though their hearts were pure before God. God told Jeremiah in chapter 7 to go to the temple of God to preach to the people of God and admonish them to amend their ways. In the New Testament, Peter was warned about the judgement of God by stating, “for the time is coming that judgement must begin at the house of God, and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?” I Peter 4:17.

If you are to represent God, which is what He has called you to do, it is absolutely important you have a heart open to His instruction. Be open to Him even when He is pointing out areas in your life that need to change. If you are to be the representative God wants you to be, you need to be willing to say, “God, where do you want me to amend my life?” Jeremiah told the people of God in his day, “For if you throughly amend your ways and your doings; ... then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.” David said, “Search me, Oh God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23-24). God wants to use you as salt but before He can, you must be willing to amend your ways. When you are open to God and allow Him to change your life, you will THRIVE.
